The core shift is simple but powerful. Instead of users clicking through interfaces, AI agents will do tasks by calling APIs.

This changes how software is built, accessed, and monetized.

Companies will no longer just ask, how do users interact with our product?

Instead of that, they will ask, how do AI Agents interact with our APIs?

This means APIs need to be self-serve, secure, and understandable by machines.

🏗️ How Atlassian and Intuit are preparing

Atlassian: It is building tools, so AI agents can complete tasks like updating Jira tickets or generating Confluence content without human clicks.

Intuit: It is training AI agents to file taxes or apply for loans by calling APIs internally on behalf of users.

Both companies are using of AI agents as their new users, and they’re restructuring their platforms to support them.

🔐 Why security and control are key

When AI agents act, they need identity, permissions, and traceability, just like human users.

That’s why, granular authentication will matter more than ever. Granular authentication means giving limited access to only what’s needed and nothing more. It helps keep systems secure by preventing over-permission.

Also, Developers must add a hard disk to prevent misuse and enterprises will build agent access policies, similar to human role-based access.

It’s no longer just about who clicked what, it’s now which agent did what, when, and why.

⚙️ Amazon’s Role: The infrastructure for the Agent era

AWS is preparing for this shift with Amazon Q (their agent platform), MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers to manage agent interactions, and secure compute and API gateways that let agents run safely

Just like AWS helped bring cloud computing to everyone, it’s now working to support a future where AI agents do the work online.
